Cycling

Zeeland is a real 'cycling province'! This became apparent in 2010 during the 'Zeeuws Jaar van de Fiets': the Giro d'Italia finished in Middelburg and the Tour de France raced right through the province of Zeeland!

Beautiful cycling routes in Zeeland

Experience for yourself why Zeeland is the most popular cycling province in the Netherlands. Cycling in Zeeland means optimal enjoyment of vast waters, wide polder views and discovering the most beautiful spots in the historic towns and villages. In order not only to put Zeeland on the map as a cycling province in 2010, many cycling paths have been improved or newly constructed in recent years and new attractive cycling routes have been created.

The Zeeland cycling route network has a great diversity of beautifully signposted ANWB cycling routes and since 2006 the cycling junction network has also been added. This allows the cyclist to determine his own route from node to node. This handy system of cycling junctions leads you simply and effectively through a variety of landscapes, Zeeland culture and impressive history in this water-rich province. This is how you discover the highlights and the most beautiful places in Zeeland!

A useful tool for planning your cycle route using nodes can be found right here.

Veerse Meer cycling route

The Veerse Meer can be cycled all around. The round is almost 60 km in total. Along the way you will pass special and beautiful vistas that can only be seen from a bicycle. In many places you can cycle directly along the waterfront, away from cars and other motorized traffic. Along the way you will pass the beautiful town of Veere and the villages of Kamperland and Kortgene.

In the summer, cyclists can also use the two tourist ferry services: between Veere and Kamperland and between Kortgene and Wolphaartsdijk. This way, walkers and cyclists can fill in or shorten the round as they wish.

Mountainbiking

Mountain bike routes have also been set out in Zeeland for real sports enthusiasts, such as around the Veerse Meer, the Terrain cycle route De Schotsman in Noord-Beveland, the Poelbos route in Zuid-Beveland and a beautiful route in the Boswachterij Westenschouwen. The routes are marked with wooden poles and lead through forest paths, over dikes, gravel drives and dunes.

Round trip with a ferry

Cycle or walk around with a ferry! Cycling and walking through Zeeland means water all around you. You prefer to get to the other side without a detour. No problem! In the summer months, various ferry services cross Zeeland. Sail a round trip with a ferry (translated in Dutch as 'rondje met een pontje') and enjoy an easy, but above all fun crossing by bike between cycling and walking.

From Noord-Beveland there are ferry connections with Veere, Zierikzee, Burghsluis and Wolphaartsdijk.
